The new North Essex Chess League season is here, and E2E4 go into it with a new shape. Last season we fielded four teams. This year the league has restructured and we’re down to two: E2E4 A in Division 2 and E2E4 B in Division 3.
Fewer teams means every board counts for more. It also means stronger, more settled line-ups each match night, which is exactly what we want.
The teams
E2E4 A (Division 2), captained by James Martin. Nominated boards:

E2E4 B (Division 3), captained by Louis Thomas. Nominated boards:

Behind them is a wider squad of 23 players, so expect to see plenty of other names on the team sheet as the season goes on. If you’d like to be considered for a match, speak to James or Louis at club night.
Who we’re playing
The A team faces Chelmsford C and D, Clacton A, Witham B, Braintree B and Colchester C, home and away. The Colchester C fixtures should be two of the most keenly fought of the year.
The B team’s Division 3 campaign takes in Witham C, Clacton B and C, Chelmsford E and Braintree C, again home and away.
Next fixtures
The A team’s scheduled opener at home to Chelmsford D on 22 September didn’t go ahead, so the season gets going properly next week.

- Tue 10 November: Clacton C v E2E4 B (away)
- Tue 24 November: Clacton A v E2E4 A (away) and E2E4 B v Chelmsford E (home)
Home matches are played at our club venue, The Spiritualist Centre, Fennings Chase, Colchester CO1 2QG. Spectators are always welcome, just keep the noise down near the boards.

Come and play
You don’t need to be a league player to be part of the club. Club night is every Tuesday from 4:30pm to 9pm, £3 a session, all ages and abilities welcome. Plenty of our current team players started out just turning up for a casual game.
